November 7, 2025 — Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI will now launch on Thursday, November 19, 2026, pushing the highly anticipated title several months beyond its previously expected release window.
In a statement shared today, Rockstar apologized to fans for the delay, acknowledging the long wait since GTA V’s original release in 2013. The studio explained that the additional time will ensure the game meets the high standards of quality and polish that players have come to expect from the series.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” Rockstar said.
“We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.”
The confirmation reaffirms that GTA VI will take players to Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida, featuring the iconic Vice City as one of its main hubs. The game promises a massive open world, modern-day setting, and an evolution of the series’ signature storytelling and freedom.
Though the delay may disappoint eager fans, Rockstar’s track record suggests the extra development time could lead to a smoother and more refined launch — something the company has prioritized after the lessons learned from other major industry releases in recent years.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release on November 19, 2026, with more details expected to emerge as the new date approaches.
