With Grand Theft Auto finally returning after a 12-year gap since GTA V and GTA Online, fans are gearing up to dive back into a gritty, vibrant, and fully open world—this time with a game that’s shaping up to be a revolutionary step in the franchise.
Set for a Fall 2025 release, Rockstar Games has remained quiet since dropping the first (and so far only) trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, accompanied by a press release. While the studio has kept most details about gameplay and features under wraps, there are a few confirmed elements that give fans plenty to be excited about.
1. Platforms – Confirmed for PS5 & Xbox Series X|S

In the press release following the trailer’s debut, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive confirmed GTA VI will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While the exact release date remains unannounced, the window is set for Fall 2025.
A PC release has not yet been confirmed. However, if history is any indicator, it’s likely to arrive later—much like GTA V, which debuted on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, then came to PS4/Xbox One in 2014, and finally to PC in 2015.
2. Location – A Return to Vice City, in the State of Leonida

Rockstar’s worlds are fictionalized takes on real American cities—like Los Santos representing Los Angeles. In GTA VI, players will return to the sun-soaked streets of Vice City, nestled within the state of Leonida, a stand-in for Florida.
This marks the first return to Vice City since 2006, and the trailer makes it clear that it’s been reimagined as a vibrant, chaotic playground filled with neon lights, swamps, beaches, and crime-riddled corners. First introduced in 1997, Vice City has long been a fan favorite alongside Liberty City and San Andreas.
3. Characters – Meet Lucia and Her Partner

The trailer introduces Lucia, the first female protagonist in the series since its early days. We first see her in a prison jumpsuit, having a cryptic conversation with a staff member about her incarceration. Her response: “Bad luck, I guess.”
Lucia is later seen alongside a male partner—possibly named Jason, though that’s unconfirmed. Their dynamic suggests a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style partnership. In one scene, Lucia reassures him they’ll get through their situation, to which he replies, “I trust you.”
4. Story – A Glimpse into the Narrative

While Rockstar hasn’t revealed much about the storyline, the trailer hints at a high-stakes tale of crime and survival. It begins with Lucia in prison and transitions to scenes of robberies, high-speed chases, and shootouts—implying a narrative centered on escape, loyalty, and possibly revenge.
It’s unclear whether Lucia’s time in prison occurs before or after the events shown, but it’s evident that her criminal journey is central to the game’s plot.
5. Immersion – A More Realistic Vice City

After over a decade of development, Rockstar has had time to refine every detail of its next-gen open world. According to founder Sam Houser, GTA VI “continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences.”
The trailer shows snippets of everyday life: partying on yachts, confrontations in traffic, and even handheld social media-style videos. These clips suggest that modern technology—especially phones and platforms resembling TikTok or Instagram—will play a major role in how players engage with the world. Expect to feel like you’re living inside a viral, chaotic, and dangerously beautiful version of Florida.
