The potential release date for GTA 6 might face delays due to the emergence of another major title from the same publisher, Take-Two Interactive. Recent updates hint at a new Mafia game being in development, which could push GTA 6 further down the release schedule. Since both Mafia and GTA are open-world crime games under the same corporate umbrella, it’s unlikely that Take-Two would launch them too closely together, fearing competition between its own titles.
This isn’t the first time a potential delay for GTA 6 has been speculated. Rockstar Games, the studio behind GTA, has previously delayed game releases to focus on other successful projects, such as updates to GTA Online and the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. Additionally, with the recent boom in GTA Online player numbers due to new content like the Diamond Casino update, Rockstar might choose to prioritize existing platforms before moving on to the next big release.
As a result, GTA 6 could face further postponements, especially if this new Mafia title proves to be a major release rather than just a remaster.
Meanwhile, another leak suggests Rockstar Games could be planning to release an optimised version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for PS5 and Xbox Series X. With the new Red Dead Redemption 2 port also likely to launch in 2025, this is another reason why some people think Grand Theft Auto 6 will be pushed back.
