The Grand Theft Auto franchise has a long-standing unwritten rule: children don’t appear in its gameplay. This guideline applies broadly to most video games that allow players to freely harm or kill NPCs. For example, consider what happened with inZoi, a game positioned as a rival to The Sims. Earlier this year, users discovered they could run over child characters — a feature the developers quickly removed and labeled a glitch.
That’s why a recent GTA 6 image that appears to include a child has triggered so much buzz online.

The image in question shows the Grassrivers area in GTA 6. If you look closely at the bottom right corner, you’ll notice a few individuals seated at an outdoor table. One of them seems significantly smaller than the others — enough so that viewers are speculating it might be a child.
This small detail caught the eye of the X (formerly Twitter) account TheGTAVerse, whose post quickly went viral, racking up more than 1.5 million views.
Still, it’s important to emphasize that it’s virtually guaranteed children won’t appear in the final version of GTA 6. Including them would imply they could be harmed or killed, something Rockstar has always avoided. GTA titles are notorious for their wild NPC violence — everything from hand-to-hand beatdowns to crashing a plane into bystanders — and GTA 6 is expected to escalate that chaos even more.
So no, this screenshot doesn’t prove players will be able to harm kids in GTA 6. It’s just a moment from a game still more than a year from launch — nothing more, nothing less.
That said, it is a bit surprising to see what might be a child in an official screenshot. If it really is a child, that would be unusual. Some believe it’s a kid, but it could just as easily be a short adult or a trick of the lighting or graphics that makes someone appear smaller than they really are.
The release of GTA 6’s second trailer and Rockstar’s detailed updates have ignited a flurry of fan theories about what the game might include. Some fans even suspect Liberty City could make an appearance, either when the game launches or later as downloadable content.
